Rotary youth exchange students bid adieu to India at farewell ceremony in Nagpur

Rotary Youth Exchange students of District 3030 bid an emotional adieu to India at a formal farewell ceremony held on March 14 at Golden Leaf Banquet in Nagpur. These students, who hail from different countries of the world, were studying in different parts of Maharashtra since the last one year as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange program.

Present during the function were past district governor Dr Prafull Mokadam, Madhu Rughwani, Mamta Jaiswal (District co-chairman and inbound coordinator), Tarun Patel (District co-chairman and outbound coordinator) among other Rotarians and guests. Rajinder Khurana (District Chairman) could not attend the function as he was in the US on the day of the ceremony.

Students, during the farewell function, were awarded with certificates. Also, representatives from educational institutions, wherein these students studied in Nagpur, were also felicitated. These institutions included: St Ursula College, Hislop College, Tuli Public School and Bharti Krishna Vidya Vihar.

After the certificates were distributed, youth exchange students shared their experiences about their time in India. Post the formal function, students had a gala time as they bonded with the guests over dinner. The cherry on the cake was the birthday celebration of exchange student Ariel Carine Whitney. Needless to say, a lot of pictures were clicked to make the evening memorable.

For the uninitiated, when Rotary youth exchange students travel to different countries, more often than not they stay with Rotarians, who act as local guardians of these students. Mamta Jaiswal, who has been a guardian and host to many such students over the years in Nagpur, while speaking to Nation Next, said, Over the years, so many exchange students have stayed with my family. I share a really special bond with these kids. When we visit their respective countries, we get the same affection, which we offer to them during their stay in India. These kids love India, the traditions here and the family values. Their farewell is an emotional moment for us and them as well.
