As promised, Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi started distributing relief material through kits to more than 18,000 flood-affected families in his constituency in Kerala.

The first kit, which was delivered yesterday, comprises essential clothes, undergarments and five kilograms of rice, sugar, pulses, tea, coffee, oil and other basic provisions that would be sufficient for a week.

As per a report in IndiaToday, Gandhi’s office secretary Byju told IANS that in the next two days, every family in his constituency, who had to face the flood fury and had to move out of their homes, will get a full kit of basic food items, a cleaning kit and dress materials including a blanket.

As per the same report, Byju said, Since Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is spread across several assembly constituencies, the distribution will cover all these places and the first round is expected to be completed in a day or two. Since some are still in camps, the second kit consists of basic cleaning materials like soaps, washing powder, dettol, and such items, basically meant to clean up the water filled homes.

As per the statement by Gandhi’s office in Wayanad, Toilet and floor cleaning material kit will be provided to families affected by the disaster in the third phase. Mr Gandhi had spent two days, visiting the disaster hit zones of Wayanad and Malappuram districts recently.

In the third round of distribution, the kit would include blankets and dress materials for people. We expect to finish the entire distribution in a few days from now,” said Ratheesh, office staff of Gandhi in Wayanad.

Anil Deshmukh

Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to former Maharashtra Home Minister and senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh (72) in money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, Deshmukh would continue to be lodged in judicial custody in Arthur Road jail as he is also being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in an alleged corruption case.

Justice NJ Jamadar pronounced the order at 2.30 pm on Tuesday afternoon. While senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhari with advocate Aniket Nikam appeared for Deshmukh, a team of Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh with Advocates Aditya Thakker, Shreeram Shirsat and Amandeep Sra appeared for the central agency.

The bail was granted on a surety amount of 1 lakh. The ED has sought a stay on the operation of the order for two weeks. Deshmukh’s lawyers said that considering the former’s health and the fact that he had no criminal antecedents, he should be granted bail.

Deshmukh and his associates have been investigated for alleged corruption between 2019 and 2021. Deshmukh was arrested in November 2021.

And that’s how a film is made – Kantara shows the way! | Movie review

Kantara poster

Social media is buzzing with one word today and that word is Kantara! Yes, another Kannada film after KGF that has caught the people’s fancy and how. In fact, this one goes a notch higher than KGF – because the film has been released only in Kannada with English subtitles and yet – the movie is capturing the hearts of people across India and the world.

From California, London and Berlin to cities across India, high praise is pouring in for the Rishab Shetty starrer and the actor-director’s Twitter feed is testimony to this. Ordinary cine-goers are putting screenshots of housefull bookings, sharing videos of people clapping and whistling in theatres and then profusely thanking the star for making this film.

So, what’s this film about? Kantara (which means forest in Sanskrit) stands out because it has powerful storytelling at its core. It is rooted in local folklore, has the right amount of action and adventure and comes with a social message too. Man versus nature, native customs and local politics, which spans three timelines and a climax that’s to die for, is what the film’s about. Add to this some superlative performances by the cast, a stellar background score by B Ajaneesh Loknath and mind-blowing cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap that serenades Karnataka’s rustic locales and you have what can be called the perfect recipe for a blockbuster film. Telling you more will just be a spoiler! So, what are you waiting for? Go watch!
