Hollywood movie Lion may not have won any of the six awards it was nominated for at the 89th Academy Awards held day before yesterday, but the eight-year-old Mumbai boy Sunny Pawar who played the lead role in the movie, did win a lot of hearts at the Oscars.

As he walked the red carpet at the Oscars, Andrew Garfield, Samuel L Jackson, Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman (his co-stars in Lion), Nicole Scherzinger and many other celebrities clicked pictures with him and pampered him. Scherzinger posted the picture on her instagram account and wrote ” This little guy has stolen my ?! #sunnypawar brilliant lit actor from #lion Unbelievable film! It deserves to clean up at the #oscars tonight! @weinsteinco.” Jackson also posted a picture captioning it – “This is who Should Have Won Best Actor tonight, Sunny Pawar of Lion! Totally Killed It!!”

Television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel who hosted Oscars this year even enacted a scene with Sunny from the movie ‘The Lion King’ as he picked him up and Sunny did a Simba! Kimmel, who had previously parachuted candies for the audience, had them flying down from the ceiling again, especially for Sunny.

In the Hollywood movie Lion, Sunny played the role of Saroo Brierley, a five-year-old boy from India, who gets separated from his family in childhood. When he grows up, he tries to find his family with the help of Google Earth.

Faced with a daunting task of finding the right kid to the play the role of Saroo, Lion director Garth Davis and casting director Kirsty McGregor went on a tour to various schools in India. After auditioning countless kids and viewing up to 2,000 tapes, Sunny was finally selected for the role of Saroo Brierley. Sunny is a Class 3 student of the Air India Model School in Mumbai and lives with his parents and his younger brother and sister in a slum in Kalina in Mumbai western suburbs near the airport. While his father is a former government sweeper, his mother is home maker.

The most astonishing part is that even though Sunny is not every good with English and relies upon a translator during interviews, his charm, his cute looks and his infectious smile swept the celebrities at the Oscars and proved that nothing is impossible and dreams do come true. And when they come true, you can be the boy from a Mumbai slum who makes an impact in Hollywood!

Long way to go little boy! More power to you!

The survey that released pictures of the same showed increased levels of SO2 and NO2 not just in Nagpur but in cities including Chandrapur, Gondia and Amravati. Environmental experts have said that the matter was worrying from the point of view of the health of the residents as the pollution index in Nagpur saw an increase in all the three months of winter.
