Serum Institute, Bharat Biotechs COVID-19 vaccines get approval for restricted use in India

Dr VG Somani, the Drugs Controller General of India, on Sunday, approved the restricted use of Serum Institutes Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin? for restricted use in emergency situations in India. 

Speaking about the approval, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: A decisive turning point to strengthen a spirited fight! DCGI granting approval to vaccines of Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech accelerates the road to a healthier and COVID-free nation. Congratulations India. Congratulations to our hardworking scientists and innovators.

Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani’s son Jeet Adani got engaged to Diva Jaimin Shah on Sunday. The low-key engagement, which was held in Ahmedabad, was attended by close friends and family members. Diva is the daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah of C.Dinesh & Co. Pvt. Ltd.

Jeet Adani pursued his education from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and joined the Adani Group in 2019. At present, he’s the Vice President, Group Finance.

As mentioned on the website of Adani Group, Jeet began his career in the Group CFO’s office by looking into Strategic Finance, Capital Markets and Risk & Governance Policy.

The website states that Jeet is also ‘spearheading the Adani Airports business as well as the Adani Digital Labs – which is all set to build a super app to cater to all the consumers of Adani Group businesses.’

Adani’s elder son Karan is married to Paridhi Shroff, who’s the daughter of Cyril Shroff who is the managing partner of law firm – Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Karan is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Ports & SEZ Limited and the director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited.

Jeet’s engagement comes at a time when the Adani Group is battling the massive fallout from US short seller Hindenburg Research’s report against Adani Group. Hindenburg alleged Adani of stock manipulation and improper use of tax havens and  even flagged concerns over debt levels. However, Adani has rejected the concerns and denied any wrongdoing.

K Vijaya Rama Rao, former director of CBI, passed away in a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday evening.

K Vijaya Rama Rao, former director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), passed away in a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday evening due to brain-related health issues at the age of 85.

Rao, who also served as a minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh, was taken to the hospital in the afternoon  after he suffered a brain stroke. He breathed his last at 7 pm. After retirement, Rao served as a minister in the TDP government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu. He  even joined the ruling BRS (then TRS) after the formation of Telangana state.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Naidu, state Congress President A Revanth Reddy among several leaders condoled the death of Vijayarama Rao. CM Rao said his funeral would be held with state honours.

Interestingly, a 1995-batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Rao was born in Eturunagaram village in what is now the Mulugu district. He did his schooling in Nellore and studied at Madras University.

He also worked twice as the state’s intelligence chief – first as a DIG in the Jalagam Vengal Rao government and for the second time, in the TD government led by NT Rama Rao.

Nagpur to Goa in 7 hours via 760-km Nagpur-Goa Expressway | Everything you need to know

Devendra Fadnavis said the government is currently preparing the Technical and Financial Feasibility Report for Nagpur Goa Expressway.

According to Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, the government is currently preparing the Technical and Financial Feasibility Report and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for 760-km-long Nagpur-Goa Expressway, which is also known as the Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Highway.

The expressway by MSRDC is a proposed six-lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment in Maharashtra that will connect Pavnar (near Wardha) and Patradevi (Pernem Taluk) and provide access to pilgrimage sites between Vidarbha, Marathwada, Western Maharashtra and Goa.

The expressway, which will be connected to Samruddhi Mahamarg Mumbai Nagpur Expressway in Wardha, will cut down the travel time between Nagpur and Goa to about seven hours from the current 21 hours.

Here are some details about the ambitious project:

The six-lane longest expressway project is named as the Shaktipeeth Expressway, as it will pass through three Shakti Peethas – Mahalakshmi, Tuljabhavani and Patradevi.

  • Hingoli
  • Nanded
  • Parbhani
  • Latur
  • Beed
  • Osmanabad
  • Solapur
  • Sangli
  • Kolhapur
  • Sindhudurg
