Renowned Nagpurians enthrall Senior Citizens at ‘Soham’ with evergreen songs

Senior citizens at Nagpur’s state-of-the-art luxurious old age home – Soham – welcomed monsoon on a happy note as they enjoyed evergreen old musical renditions by renowned doctors, engineers, academicians, bankers and journalists at the musical evening Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hain on June 28. This evening, which was a musical fiesta for the seniors and by the seniors was presented by Swarvedh’s ‘Utsahi Soor.’

Varsha Manohar, President of Women’s Home Trust, which manages the old age home ‘Soham,’ was also present during the evening and was seen welcoming the guests.

During the evening, songs such Zindagi Kaisi Yeh Paheli, Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gaya, Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye, etc., not only made the mood melodious but also made many senior citizens in the audience to sing along. The evening was conceptualised by Bhanudas Kulkarni and the music was arranged by Mahendra Dhole.

The old age home, which is spread across an area of 1.5 acres, consists of studio apartments aimed at providing carefree post-retirement life for elders. The facility at ‘Soham’ can accommodate 64 seniors. Each room consists of a television, a refrigerator and other amenities.

Apart from the spacious and comforting rooms, ‘Soham’ also consists of open spaces, slip-proof walking tracks, a library and a meditation and activity centre.

Ex-Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf dies after battling rare disease

Parvez Musharraf

Former President of Pakistan Parvez Musharraf (79) passed away in Dubai on Sunday morning after battling against a rare disease in Dubai since March 2016. Musharraf, who was undergoing treatment for amyloidosis.

It is a rare disease that occurs when an abnormal protein, called amyloid, builds up in your organs and interferes with their normal function. 

On June 10, his family had issued a statement on Twitter by saying, “He (Musharraf) is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalized for the last 3 weeks due to a complication of his ailment (Amyloidosis). Going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living.”

Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi and completed his early education at St Patrick’s High School in Karachi. He pursued his higher education from Forman Christian College in Lahore.

Indian cricketer Umesh Yadav had a ‘field day’ teasing his team member Shubham Gill after Tinder – a popular dating app – showed a photo of a girl with a placard on large billboards in Nagpur that read, “Shubman idhar toh dekh lo” (Shubman, have a look here).” Tinder was quick to capitalise on the joke and turn it into hoardings in Nagpur ahead of India first Test match vs Australia.

Taking to twitter, Yadav wrote, “Poora Nagpur bol raha hai, Shubman Gill ab toh dekh le.”

During India’s T20 match in Ahmedabad, a picture of a female fan holding a placard that read ‘Tinder, Shubman se match kara do” (Tinder, match me with Shubman)’ had gone viral.
