Prithvi Shaw named India’s captain for Under-19 World Cup

Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw would be leading India in the upcoming Under-19 World Cup, which would be held in New Zealand from January 13, 2018. Punjabs Shubman Gill, who was the top scorer in the Youth ODI series in England in the early 2017 (at an average of 92.66), has been titled to be Shaws deputy.
The five member squad, that includes Haryanas Himanshu Rana and Assams Riyan Parag with five stand-by players, are set to participate in a preparatory camp in Bengaluru from December 8 to 22 this year. Shaw is the second highest scorer this season with 521 runs at an average of 57.88. Apart from Shaw, Ishan Porel from West Bengal has bagged 10 wickets in two matches. Both the players have been allowed to play for their respective sides in the quarter-finals, which would start from December 7. Shaw and Porel are expected to join the camp on December 12.

Standby players include: Om Bhosle, Rahul Chahar, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel, and Aditya Thakare.

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur
Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.
Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.
