With an intention to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), on April 8, made it mandatory for citizens to wear masks while stepping out of their houses. Currently, 19 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in Nagpur.
In a letter issued on April 8, the civic body said that wearing a mask is now mandatory even while operating ones personal or official vehicle. No person or an officer would be allowed to attend or visit any meeting, gathering, workplace, site, roads, hospitals and markets without wearing a mask, under Rule 10 of Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
Violation of the order would lead to arrest and being booked under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which states, disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant. The minimum punishment is six months of imprisonment.
The order was issued by Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe on Wednesday. The mask can be at least three-ply or a homemade one.

Nagpur citizens to revel The Raaas Garba next year!
Since The Raaas enchanted and enthralled Nagpur with its quality garba in its first year in 2018, the demand for encore has been reverberating the city. To cater to the huge public demand, the organisers of the king of garbas have decided to continue The Raaas next year on. Like its first year, The Raaas Garba will be presented to Nagpur in association with Nation Next in 2023. Mahesh Kukreja, the key organiser said, “Because of some reasons, we, earlier, thought of giving the event a break.”
He added, “Then COVID-19 struck the world. Now we plan to continue it from next year onwards. While I express my gratitude to Nagpurians to make the event a huge hit, I request the city’s garba revellers to not get fooled as a few garbas are falsely claiming to be The Raaas. We’ll be back next year for sure!”
