Nagpur filmmaker completes distribution of 100 films on OTT platform in lockdown

COVID-19 pandemic led to shutting down of several businesses around the world but there is one sector that has grown manifold since the start of the pandemic is online video streaming platforms.

During lockdown, people spent majority of their time watching films on OTT platforms including Netflix, Amazon, Hotstar, MX player etc., especially during quarantine.

Filmmaker Piyush Pande from Nagpur contributed in his own way by bringing films to the audiences. He linked more than 100 filmmakers from across India to the OTT platforms and released their films on the same.

Piyush Pande, owner at Piyush Pande Films, explained, Being a film maker myself, I have directed as well a produced films and web series in the past and sold them to the buyers, releasing it on various online and offline platforms. It really gave me a detailed insight of the film business and distribution. I did some good networking in the film industry.

He added, Most of the times, a producer or a director does not know how to sell their film. I help them to find a suitable platform; a film maker can submit their films and after reviewing, the back team will find the best platforms for the film.

Pande explained further, Everyone is watching short films, feature films, documentaries, web series etc., and there’s lot of good content available, which is still not seen by the audiences as it has not been released yet. My aim is to release those unreleased content.

Piyush Pande has released films on platforms like Amazon Prime, Mubi, MX player, SonyLIV, Ullu, Hotstar, Netflix, Sheemaroo, Tatasky, Airtel, VI, Jiocinema, etc.

One film that was much talked about and gathered controversy this year is ‘The Kashmir Files’. And actor Anupam Kher, who played a central role in the film, is applauded for his acting. But, a recent video released from the film festival has gone viral. The video shows IFFI Jury Head, Nadav Lapid making controversial remarks about the film. And it’s confirmed by a team member of IFFI that the Israeli filmmaker made the remark at the closing ceremony.

“I would like to thank the head of the festival and the director of the programming for the cinematic richness of the programme, for its diversity, for its complexity. It was intense. We saw seven films in the debutant competition, and 15 films in the international competition, the front window of the festival. 14 out of them had cinematic qualities, defaults and evoked vivid discussions,” said Nadav Lapid in his speech.

Calling ‘The Kashmir Files’ ‘propaganda’ and ‘vulgar’, he further added, “We all were shocked and disturbed after watching ‘The Kashmir Files’. The film felt like propaganda, vulgar and inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival. I don’t mind sharing my feelings openly in front of you all. In the spirit of this festival, I’m ready to accept a critical discussion, which is important for art and life.”

These statements of Lapid didn’t go well with actor Anupam Kher. He tweeted, “No matter how high the height of the lie is.. It is always small in comparison to the truth.” The actor also attached pictures from ‘The Kashmir Files’ and Steven Spielberg’s film ‘Schindler’s List’ with his tweet.

Ananya is aware of the fact that showbiz is a very tricky business: Chunky Panday

Chunky Panday

Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer ‘Liger’ turned out to be a failure at the box office. It was Vijay’s debut in Bollywood and Ananya’s first bilingual film too. But the film didn’t shape up the way it was expected and even Ananya’s father-actor Chunky Panday agrees to it.

Talking about Liger’s failure, Chunky expressed, “Any actor gives his or her 100 percent to a film. And after you finish it, you go out of your way to promote the film. And these days promotional activities are a trend where you even go into masses urging fans to watch it. But sometimes things go wrong and we are depressed about it. And it’s okay, that’s an obvious reaction for any actor to feel devastated. Success or failure can happen with any film, an artist has to live with it and just move on. I’m sure my daughter (Ananya) is aware of the fact that showbiz is a very tricky business.”

Having said that, Chunky feels that one should not ‘overconfident’ or ‘underestimate’ anything in the film industry. “On a film set, almost around 400 people work. And as an actor, we don’t get to see each and every thing as a whole. We are aware of only portions of what’s happening but we don’t know what’s going to be the end result. So, it’s better to take things as they come,” Chunky stated.
