Legendary golfer Tiger Woods suffers serious leg injuries in vehicle roll-over crash, undergoes surgery

45-year-old legendary golfer Eldrick Tiger? Woods, on Tuesday, sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries in a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on a steep roadway in Racho Palos Verdes peninsula, California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department tweeted that Woods had been travelling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard at Blackhorse Road, when the crash occurred.

The Sheriffs Department informed that Woods was conscious when first responders reached his side and was calm and lucid. He was extricated with the help of Halligan tube (pry bar) and an axe to get him through the front windshield before being transported to a nearby medical center.

He was alive, and he was conscious. There was no evidence of impairment at the scene, Los Angeles (LA) County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a media briefing later on Tuesday.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner suffered ‘significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during the emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Canter, a level 1 trauma center,’ Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Dr Anish Mahajan said in a statement released on Woods’s official twitter handle recently.

Commuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilised by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins. Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling, the statement read.

Woods is currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room.

Prior to the incident, he was set to film more for the series Tuesday, per GOLFTV. According to the ESPN reporter Shelley Smith, LA Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees were to be the part of the series.

I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team.”

Kohli also thanked the BCCI as he wrote: “”I want to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation.”
