The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday in a letter asked the leaders of elected members of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the acting Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis to indicate the willingness and ability of their party to form the government in Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections were held on 21st October, of which the results were declared on 24th October this year. However, despite the passage of 15 days, no single party or alliance of parties has come forward to form the government.
The Governor therefore decided to explore the possibility of formation of government and asked the leaders of the elected members of the BJP to convey its willingness and ability to form the government.
Fadnavis will have to prove majority in the House of 288 members by 8.00 pm on Monday, November 11. Now the BJP can either prove their majority or else decline the offer. The BJP can also ask for some time to show the support of 145 MLAs either in writing or on the floor of the House.
Amidst the power tussle between the BJP and Shiv Sena, Fadnavis tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister to Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.
In a press conference, Fadnavis said that no 50:50 seat sharing formula with the Shiv Sena was ever decided. He further said that he even made three calls to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, but got no response.
Fadnavis, who’s the acting CM for now, said that even the Opposition including Congress never criticised the BJP like the Shiv Sena did.
The NCP and the Congress won 54 and 44 seats respectively out of 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections where the majority mark is 145. The BJP and Shiv Sena have so far failed to reach an agreement to come together to form government despite the deadline of forming the government came to an end.
And that’s how a film is made – Kantara shows the way! | Movie review
Social media is buzzing with one word today and that word is Kantara! Yes, another Kannada film after KGF that has caught the people’s fancy and how. In fact, this one goes a notch higher than KGF – because the film has been released only in Kannada with English subtitles and yet – the movie is capturing the hearts of people across India and the world.
From California, London and Berlin to cities across India, high praise is pouring in for the Rishab Shetty starrer and the actor-director’s Twitter feed is testimony to this. Ordinary cine-goers are putting screenshots of housefull bookings, sharing videos of people clapping and whistling in theatres and then profusely thanking the star for making this film.
So, what’s this film about? Kantara (which means forest in Sanskrit) stands out because it has powerful storytelling at its core. It is rooted in local folklore, has the right amount of action and adventure and comes with a social message too. Man versus nature, native customs and local politics, which spans three timelines and a climax that’s to die for, is what the film’s about. Add to this some superlative performances by the cast, a stellar background score by B Ajaneesh Loknath and mind-blowing cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap that serenades Karnataka’s rustic locales and you have what can be called the perfect recipe for a blockbuster film. Telling you more will just be a spoiler! So, what are you waiting for? Go watch!
