Amid scare of 2nd COVID-19 wave in Nagpur, winter session to be now held in Mumbai

In the view of possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Nagpur, the winter session of Maharashtra Legislature Assembly and Council would not be convened in its traditional venue ? Nagpur ? and instead take place in Mumbai from December 7.

The decision to shift the venue was taken at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, which was held at Vidhan Bhavan on Tuesday.

The BACs of both the houses met today (November 10) at the Vidhan Bhavan and decided to hold winter session in Mumbai instead of Nagpur considering the coronavirus crisis. The number of days for the ensuing winter session will be decided at the BAC meetings to be held in November end, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a press release.

The winter session is usually held in Nagpur every year. However, BACs arrived at the decision after a large number of members from BJP and opposition parties suggested that the session should be held in Mumbai amid COVID-19 crisis.

During the meeting, Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil demanded that the winter session be conducted for 15 days even as sources informed that government is likely to reduce the number of days.

The BJP, however, demanded for the budget session to be held in Nagpur.

The Raaas (2018)

Since The Raaas enchanted and enthralled Nagpur with its quality garba in its first year in 2018, the demand for encore has been reverberating the city. To cater to the huge public demand, the organisers of the king of garbas have decided to continue The Raaas next year on. Like its first year, The Raaas Garba will be presented to Nagpur in association with Nation Next in 2023. Mahesh Kukreja, the key organiser said, “Because of some reasons, we, earlier, thought of giving the event a break.”

He added, “Then COVID-19 struck the world. Now we plan to continue it from next year onwards. While I express my gratitude to Nagpurians to make the event a huge hit, I request the city’s garba revellers to not get fooled as a few garbas are falsely claiming to be The Raaas. We’ll be back next year for sure!”
