Uttar Pradesh woman to become 1st female in independent India to be hanged till death

For the first time in the history of India, a woman prisoner will be hanged till death for murdering seven members of her family with an axe on April 15, 2008. The woman Shabnam, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, who murdered her family members with the help of a man named Salim, will be hanged at Mathura jail.

As per reports, Shabnam and Salim were having an affair and wanted to get married but their relationship met with stiff opposition from Shabnams family. Hence, in a fit of rage, Shabnam along with Salim, brutally murdered seven members of her family.

Initially, Shabnam denied her involvement in the crime, and stated that her house in Amroha came under attack by unidentified assailants. However, investigations revealed that she first made her family members, including her little nephew, drink milk mixed with sedatives and then murdered them.

The case was heard in Amroha court for two years and three months. On 15 July 2010, District Judge SAA Hussaini ruled that Shabnam and Salim should be hanged till death.

In the case, the cross-examination went on for about 100 dates. On the day of the judgment, the judge heard the statements of 29 witnesses and convicted both Shabnam and Salim on July 14, 2010. The next day, on July 15, 2010, Judge SAA Hussaini sentenced both of them to death in just 29 seconds. In this case, 649 questions were asked from 29 people. The judgment was written in 160 pages.

Notably, the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of Shabnam and Salim. The President has also rejected their mercy petition.

The jail administration has started preparations to hang Shabnam in Mathura jail. Meerut’s Pawan Jallad, who hanged Nirbhaya’s accused, has also inspected the hanging house twice, reported News 18. However, the date of hanging has not been fixed yet.

Since The Raaas enchanted and enthralled Nagpur with its quality garba in its first year in 2018, the demand for encore has been reverberating the city. To cater to the huge public demand, the organisers of the king of garbas have decided to continue The Raaas next year on. Like its first year, The Raaas Garba will be presented to Nagpur in association with Nation Next in 2023. Mahesh Kukreja, the key organiser said, “Because of some reasons, we, earlier, thought of giving the event a break.”

He added, “Then COVID-19 struck the world. Now we plan to continue it from next year onwards. While I express my gratitude to Nagpurians to make the event a huge hit, I request the city’s garba revellers to not get fooled as a few garbas are falsely claiming to be The Raaas. We’ll be back next year for sure!”
