Three engineers working with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) have tested positive for COVID-19 even after taking 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
One of the engineers took ten first show of the vaccine on January 28 and the second one on March 3. As the engineer developed a throat infection and cough four days after getting the second dose, he got himself tested for COVID-19. His report came back positive.
Another engineer with the urban development department of the civic body got the first dose of the vaccine on February 8 and the second dose on March 7. However, after he developed a throat infection and other complications, his COVID-19 report came back positive.
The third engineer took the first dose of the vaccine on February 1 and the second dose on March 2. After getting tested for COVID-19 because of suffering from dry cough, the engineer tested positive for COVID-19 on March 6.
Dr Ashish Naik, Deputy Health Commissioner, SMC, said: The three engineers are not in a critical stage. They are undergoing treatment and have been kept under home isolation.
Dr Amit Gamit, COVID-19 nodal officer with Surats New Civil hospital, said: The effectiveness of the vaccine is 80 to 85 percent. Also, the immunity starts developing in the body four weeks after administering the second dose of the vaccine. After taking both the doses, one should also follow the Covid-19 guidelines.
