After Former Union Minister and five-time Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday returned the Padam Vibhushan award, Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) chief and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa  also returned Padma Bhushan to protest against the farm bill.

The Rajya Sabha MP was honoured with the Padma Bhushan ? India’s third highest civilian award – by President of India Ram Nath Kovind in March 2019.

Dhindsa in conversation with Hindustan Times said, I have returned my Padma Bhushan in protest as farmers have been staging dharnas for the past two months but the Central government is not ready to listen to them. When the BJP government is ignoring our elderly people, who have shifted their protest to Delhi borders, the award is worthless to me.

Sukhdev Dhindsa also said that while his son Parminder Singh Dhindsa has staged protests against the anti-farmer laws, he too will intensify the agitation if the central government does not repel such laws.

Welcoming Sukhdev Dhindsas decision to return the award, Congress leader Sunil Jakhar said that the return of the prestigious award was the result of growing outrage among farmers and mass movements against the latest decision by the centre on farm bills.
