President Kovind, PM Modi, VP Venkaiah Naidu pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyrs Day

To mark the 73rd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Martyrs Day, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha at Raj Ghat in Delhi on Saturday. 

On behalf of a grateful nation, my humble tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi who embraced martyrdom this day. We should adhere to his ideals of peace, non-violence, simplicity, purity of means and humility. Let us resolve to follow his path of truth and love, President Kovind tweeted. 

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to twitter to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi saying that his ideals continued to motivate millions.

Tributes to the great Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals continue to motivate millions. On Martyrs Day we recall the heroic sacrifices of all those great women and men who devoted themselves towards India’s freedom and the well-being of every Indian, he tweeted.

 

 

I salute Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his death anniversary. Today, we also remember all the freedom fighters, including the revered Bapu, who sacrificed everything in order to liberate our country. I pay my respect to all such fighters, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted in Hindi.

KK passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata

Renowned playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata. The singer performed at Nazul Mancha auditorium on Tuesday (May 31). He went to his hotel after his performance and collapsed. He was rushed to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at around 10:30 pm, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The exact cause of his death is unknown as of now.

Shane Warne, the legendary Australian spinner, passed away at the age of 52 after suffering a suspected heart attack, his management has confirmed.

A statement by the managenent read: “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
