Delhi AIIMS Nurses’ Union on a strike over redressal of their pending demands

Around 5000 nurses of Delhis All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday, went on an ?indefinite strike? over redressal of their long pending demands, including those with regard to the Sixth Central Pay Commission and contractual appointments. 

According to Delhi AIIMS Nurses Union, the institution has been hiring nurses from outside on a contract basis. 

Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS informed that the nurses have 23 demands. Almost all the demands have been met by the AIIMS administration and government. I appeal all nurses and nursing officers not to go on a strike amid this serious epidemic, he said. 

The AIIMS administration on Tuesday, also issued a warning to the protesting nursing staff. 

It is brought to the notice of all Controlling Officers of the Nursing Cadre that the Government of India vide their Order earing No V-16020/231/2019-INI-I (Pt.) dated 14/12/2020 has declared that there should be no cessation or disruption of Nursing function in the AIIMS nor such an action shall be aided or abetted. Non compliance in this regard will be treated as offence under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 read with the Indian Penal Code. An appeal has already been made by the Director to all the Nursing personnel to return to their duties. It may be ensured that attendance of all the Nursing personnel who report for duty is mandatorily recorded and those absent to be marked as such, the letter issued by AIIMS read.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has asked the nurses to call off their strike or strict action would be taken against them under Disaster Management Act. The Ministry is open to placing the fresh demand before appropriate authorities for sympathetic consideration and therefore the AIIMS Nurses Union may be requested to reconsider and withdraw call for any strike, especially during these epidemic times, due to the national priority of effective tackling COVID-19 pandemic, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Deshmukh informed that Tharoor would be visiting Nagpur on October 1 and 2 to hear out all thoughts of Congress delegates.

To cater to the huge public demand, the organisers of the king of garbas have decided to continue The Raaas next year on. Like its first year, The Raaas Garba will be presented to Nagpur in association with Nation Next in 2023.
