Olympic gold medalist, hockey legend Charanjit Singh passes away

Indian hockey legend and Padma Shri Charanjit Singh, who captained the Olympic team that won gold medial in 1964 in Tokyo, passed away on Thursday afternoon.

The legend died due to age-related complications in Una, Himachal Pradesh. The cremation would take place late on Thursday afternoon. He breathed his last at 5 am.

Born on November 22, 1930 at Mairi village in Una district, Singh was an alumnus of Col. Brown Cambridge School, Dehra Dun, and Punjab University.

He was also a part of the team that won the silver medal at Rome Olympics in 1960.

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said, Got the sad news of the passing away of Charanjit Singh, a former hockey player from Una and the captain of the Indian hockey team in the 1964 Olympic Games. A Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee, Singh will always inspire the young generation. May the Almighty grant the departed soul eternal peace and give strength to the bereaved family.

KK passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata

Renowned playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata. The singer performed at Nazul Mancha auditorium on Tuesday (May 31). He went to his hotel after his performance and collapsed. He was rushed to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at around 10:30 pm, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The exact cause of his death is unknown as of now.

Shane Warne, the legendary Australian spinner, passed away at the age of 52 after suffering a suspected heart attack, his management has confirmed.

A statement by the managenent read: “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
