The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court on Wednesday instructed Maha Metro to clean the Zero Mile Stone premises within two days while hearing a suo moto PIL on neglect of Zero Mile Stone monument by the authorities. The court had earlier this month appointed Advocate Kartik Shukul as amicus curiae in the case.
The instructions came from the bench comprising of Justice Ravi Deshpande and Pushpa Ganediwala. The bench also warned Maha Metro that in case it fails to follow the courts instructions, Maha Metro display adjacent to the Zero Mile Stone should be removed. The court also allowed an intervention by former Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) heritage committee member P Ahuja.
Advocate Kartik Shukul brought to the notice of the court that the property belongs to state government and therefore it is the responsibility of the state government. Adv Shukul also brought to the notice of the court that he himself had visited the site and that the site was in a bad condition.
Adv Shukul also brought to the notice that DCP (Traffic) was to give his suggestions on beautification options given my Maha Metro to Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The case will be next heard on October 7 when the DCP (Traffic) is also expected to give his suggestions.
In absence of any agreement on the monument between State Government and Maha Metro, which eventually will take responsibility of the monument, the court then instructed Maha Metro to maintain the monument temporarily as its display was already adjacent to it.
While Adv Gemini Kasat represented NMC and Heritage Conservation Committee and Adv Fulzele represented the State of Maharashtra, senior counsel SK Mishra represented Maha Metro.
The court had taken cognizance of the condition of the Zero Mile Stone premises in October last year. Nation Next has learnt that the court, while taking cognizance, also referred to one of the articles published by us regarding the pitiful condition of Zero Mile Stone. The article ?Zero Mile Stone awaits maintenance while Nagpur Metro gets all the attention? was published on January 25, 2018, along with pictures from Zero Mile Stone premises.

Nagpur citizens to revel The Raaas Garba next year!
Since The Raaas enchanted and enthralled Nagpur with its quality garba in its first year in 2018, the demand for encore has been reverberating the city. To cater to the huge public demand, the organisers of the king of garbas have decided to continue The Raaas next year on. Like its first year, The Raaas Garba will be presented to Nagpur in association with Nation Next in 2023. Mahesh Kukreja, the key organiser said, “Because of some reasons, we, earlier, thought of giving the event a break.”
He added, “Then COVID-19 struck the world. Now we plan to continue it from next year onwards. While I express my gratitude to Nagpurians to make the event a huge hit, I request the city’s garba revellers to not get fooled as a few garbas are falsely claiming to be The Raaas. We’ll be back next year for sure!”
