Following several requests from various stakeholders, Maharashtra government, on June 22, allowed marriage functions to take place in non-AC halls and lawns with maximum number of guests up to 50. The government also made it clear that social distancing at such weddings will be a must.
The approval came through a circular issued by the State Government to all Divisional Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners and District Collectors.
Earlier hall/ lawn owners under the banner of Nagpur Mangal Karyalay and Lawns Association had requested the government seeking withdrawal of ban citing heavy financial losses.

As per a TOI report, the association members explained that there were only a few auspicious dates for marriages left till June 30 and only a few days in later November and December. TOI quoted the members as saying, In such a situation, if we weren’t allowed to host weddings, those in the business would go bankrupt as there have been no events for the last three months due to the lockdown. Many of us have taken loans to operate halls/ lawns and also employed many to whom regular salaries have to be paid.

Purva Kothari’s jewellery collection sparkles at ‘Intrea’ exhibition in Nagpur
Amid festivities, jewellery designer Purva Kothari conducted a two-day exhibition of diamond studded jewellery at Jawaharlal Darda Art Gallery in Nagpur on October 1 and 2.
Purva, in the past, has enticed celebrities including Director at Reliance Industries Nita Ambani, Varsha Patel wife of former minister Praful Patel, Founder at Videocon Venugopal Dhoot, Founder Chairman at GMR Group GM Rao and endorsements from Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saina Nehwal, to name a few.
