Maharashtra government announces public holiday on Feb 7 to mourn Lata Mangeshkar’s death

The Maharashtra government on Sunday (Feb 6) announced a public holiday on Monday (Feb 7) to mourn the death of veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar. A tweet from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s office read: “The state government has declared a public holiday in the state on Monday, February 7, 2022, to mourn the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar.”

A notification from the Maharashtra government read: “Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar passed away tragically on Sunday, February 6, 2022, and her demise has caused immense loss to the world of music and art. To pay homage to the great singer, a public holiday is being declared in the state on Monday, February 7, using the authority vested in the Government of Maharashtra.”

The Central government has already announced a two-day national mourning after the death of the queen of melody. During this period, the tricolour will fly at half-mast as a mark of respect for the Bharat Ratna-awardee who has mesmerised Indian audience for decades with her soulful voice.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away the age of 92 in Mumbai on February 6. She will be cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai at 6:30 pm.

KK passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata

Renowned playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away at the age of 53 in Kolkata. The singer performed at Nazul Mancha auditorium on Tuesday (May 31). He went to his hotel after his performance and collapsed. He was rushed to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at around 10:30 pm, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The exact cause of his death is unknown as of now.

Shane Warne, the legendary Australian spinner, passed away at the age of 52 after suffering a suspected heart attack, his management has confirmed.

A statement by the managenent read: “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
