Every Indian proud that two ‘Made in India’ COVID-19 vaccines have received emergency use approval: PM Modi

After two Indian COVID-19 vaccines were approved by India’s drug regulator on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the country and scientists involved in making the Indian COVID-19 vaccines. Modi also said that every Indian was proud of having a home-made vaccine.
Modi’s reaction came after Oxford Universitys COVID-19 vaccine – Covishield – developed by the Serum Institute of India along with AstraZeneca – and Covaxin – developed by Bharat Biotech – were approved by India’s drug regulator on Sunday morning.
The Prime Minister took to Twitter and wrote: It would make every Indian proud that two vaccines that have been given emergency use approval are made in India. This shows the eagerness of our scientific community to fulfil the dream of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, at the root of which is care and compassion.
He further stated that he extends his gratitude towards doctors, medical staff, scientists, police personnel, and sanitation workers for the outstanding work done, that too in adverse circumstances.
He said that the country would forever remain eternally grateful to them for saving lives. PM Modi saw this approval as a decisive turning point and wrote: DCGI granting approval to vaccines of Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech accelerates the road to a healthier and COVID-free nation.
