The bank is after me for recovering its loan of two lakh rupees, and the defaulters are fleeing with crores! an exasperated Shilpa Sen (Esha Deol) rakes up the prevalent issue of today’s banking system in India in the first scene of her comeback film ‘Cakewalk.’ Directed by celebrated journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee and shot in Kolkata, Cakewalk (with Nation Next as its online media partner) revolves around chef Shilpa Sen, who divorces her disgruntled husband to pursue her dreams.
While Esha as a chef looks every bit of an independent woman, Esha, as a domesticated wife, looks as adorable as her character in her movie Just Married (2007) opposite Fardeen Khan. The biggest takeaway from the movie is: ‘Life is not a cakewalk but you can make it one by passionately chasing your dreams.’
Cakewalk, in its own sweet way, underscores a different hue of women empowerment, by conveying that even if the marriage isn’t a bed of roses for a woman, she can attain happiness by giving her life a new meaning.
Cakewalk celebrates the triumphal journey of a dedicated but discredited homemaker ‘Shilpa,’ who eventually gets to prove her mettle to her ex-husband (Tarun Malhotra) with her accomplishments, after walking out of a failed marriage.

Esha Deol’s powerful portrayal of the protagonist remains the mainstay of the film throughout. Tarun looks absolutely chiseled in his 6-pack abs (thanks to his no-salt diet during the making of the film)! Anindita Bose, who plays Tarun’s second wife, grabs eyeballs with her powerful screen presence despite her limited scenes in the film.

Produced by Dinesh Gupta, Shailendra Kumar and Aritra Das, under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures and SS One Entertainments, the film is co-directed by Abhra Chakraborty. Shailendra Sayanti has given music for the film.
Debutant director Ram Kamal Mukherjee gets full marks for making ‘Cakewalk’ looks like a freshly baked cake, ready to serve! Ram gets to successfully capture the audience’s interest throughout the 27-minutes of the film. In fact, at the end, one feels that this cakewalk should have been longer!
