Ending long speculations and rumours, Congress leader Nana Patole, on Friday, was appointed as the new Maharashtra Pradesh Congress President by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Along with this, AICC also named the new working presidents, vice presidents and parliamentary board members of the state.
A press release from AICC signed by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed the same.
Patole substantiated the rumours about him being selected for the role of Maharashtra Congress President, when he resigned as the Speaker of Vidhan Sabha, on Thursday afternoon. Patole succeeded Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat and took on this new role offered by Congresss top leadership.
If few reports were to be believed, NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar had expressed his dissatisfaction on Patoles resignation. Along with Pawar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, had reportedly opposed Patoles move.
Ahead of the State Budget session, Patoles resignation as the Speaker of Vidhan Sabha might create few problems for the current MVA government as the count of MLAs of the ruling party now stands at 171, said a source close to Pawar.
MVA insiders reportedly believed that the state government was stable and had majority in the house. Hence, Patoles resignation from the post of the speaker could disturb the system and create unnecessary chaos.
