Chess tournament with ₹2 lakh prize money to be held on Dec 4, 5 in Nagpur; All you need to know

The premier annual chess event is back after a gap of two years. Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation in association with GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation is organizing ₹2nd GH Raisoni Memorial All India FIDE Rapid and Blitz Rating Tournament? on December 4th and 5th at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology College (GHRIET), Shraddha Park, Near MIDC Police Station, Hingna – Wadi Link Road in Nagpur.

National Rapid Champion and International Master Anwesh Upadhyaya, International Master Ravi Teja S, FIDE Master Akash Thakur and FIDE Master Sauravh Khherdekar have already confirmed their entries for the mega event.
Inauguration ceremony would take place on December 4th at 9 am where the first first round would begin at 10 am.
The tournament would be conducted in Rapid and Blitz format while the Blitz tournament would start On December 5 followed by prize distribution ceremony. 
While the first prize would be ₹50,000, second ₹30,000 and third would be ₹20,000. Total 31 cash prizes and 70 trophies would be distributed. The last date of registration is November 30th. 
Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary at Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and Organizing Chairman, promised to make the event bigger and better this year. He told Nation Next, We are committed to raise the bar while constantly improving the playing conditions for our players. In spite of the rising logistical challenges, we will continue to make value additions in making this event a huge Success
Dr Vivek R Kapur, Director at GHRIET, said, This is a proud moment for GHRIET as some of the best brains across the nation to compete in this event.

Satchidanand Soman, member at MCA Tournament Committee and Organizing Committee, Dr Mrinalini Naik Project Head and Amit Gandhare of Raisoni Group extended their cooperation for the tournament.

A recognized team of arbiters headed by International Arbiter Promodraj Moree from Gulbarga, IA Pravin Pantawane, FA Pravin Thakre from Jalgaon, FA Shubham Soni from Rajnandgaon, SNA Sheetal Panbude, NA Amit Temburne, Amit Bhongare, Prayas Ambade would conduct and monitor the tournament.

Children gear up to ‘checkmate’ opponents as Chess Festival kickstarts in Nagpur

First Children’s Chess Festival? organized by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation in association with GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation was inaugurated on November 1st, Monday at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology (GHRIET) situated at Shraddha Park, MIDC Nagpur. 


The tournament was inaugurated by Dr Vivek Kapur (Director, GHRIET),  Nishant Gandhi (Corporator) by moving a pawn in front of the king as a beginning of the chess tournament. 

Also present on the dais were Satchidanand Soman (Tournament Committee Member of Maharashtra Chess Association) Bhushan Shriwas (Secretary at Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and Organising Chairman at the tournament). Sarang Thakre conducted the Vote of Thanks.

With an overwhelming response of over 163 students for the tournament, GHRIET decided to organise a free vaccination drive for parents of all participants. 


While the Chief Arbiter of the tournament was IA Pravin Pantawane, under his guidance SNA Sheetal Panbude , SNA Swati Kumbhalkar, Amit Temburne, Prayas Ambade and member of GHRIET Vikrant Chole and Satish Pusdekar worked hard to make the tournament a grand success.


The sixth round would begin at 10 am followed by prize distribution ceremony  at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 2.
