ACB nabs Nagpur Zilla Parishad official for accepting bribe of Rs 1,000

The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday nabbed a Senior Assistant in Works Department at Nagpur Zilla Parishad for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000. The official, Vijay Bajirao Morey, was caught red-handed for taking money from a member of Nerla Gram Panchayat for making an agreement for already sanctioned projects under the rural development fund in Moudas Nerla village.

The construction of a community hall and a gymnasium was sanctioned in 2018-19 under the rural development fund. However, to execute the two projects, an agreement was to be signed between Nerla Gram Panchayat and Works Department of Nagpur Zilla Parishad.

When Morey was approached by a Nerla Gram Panchayat member for the agreement, Morey demanded Rs 1,000 to execute it. The Gram Panchayat member then informed the ACB about the same.

ACB officials have arrested Morey and he has been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act at Sadar Police station.
