Congress Corporator and General Secretary of MPCC (Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee) Praful Gudadhe Patil has said that Nagpur Mayor Dayashankar Tiwaris appeal to Maharashtra government to let Nagpur Municipal Corporation buy COVID-19 vaccines directly is nothing but a publicity stunt.

Speaking to Nation Next, the Congress leader said, In any vaccination process sin India, Central Government is the one, which supplies vaccines to states and local bodies. The Centre has placed orders for vaccines and still not getting them as per the need. If the Centre can’t procure the vaccines, how can NMC do the same??

He added, If NMC knows the place where vaccines can be bought, it should tell about the same to Maharashtra Government. The state government will buy it and give them to NMC.

For the uninitiated, a few days, Tiwari had informed that he has written a letter to Maharashtra Government to allow NMC to purchase COVID vaccines directly so as to enable the civic body to vaccinate maximum citizens before the thrid wave. Tiwari also appealed Nagpur corporators, MLAs, MLCs and MPs to come forward and give money from their development funds to buy vaccines.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray said there was a wave of andh bhakts (a term colloquially used for blind illogical followers) at the moment and people shouldn’t become andh bhakts.

Thackeray said the same while virtually releasing state cabinet minister Dr Nitin Raut’s book ‘Ambedkar on Population Policy’ on Sunday from Mumbai.

Thackeray said, “Babasaheb Ambedkar’s thoughts guide us and show us the way forward. He not only framed the Constitution but also told us the obstacles that may come up and how to overcome them. The true follower will understand the teaching of his God and spread it to all. The blind follower will only praise superficially and then sometimes change his affection.”

Raut, who was praised by Thackeray for coming up with a ‘well-researched’ book, said the government in the state should implement suggestions given by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and initiate welfare programmes based on them.

The event was held at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall in Nagpur in the presence of Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Professor at Indiana University in USA Dr Kevin Brown, ex-Chairman UGC and renowned economist Dr Sukhdeo Thorat apart from several other prominent leaders.
