Celebrate responsibly; cops not against partying: Nagpur DCP Zone II Vinita S

Nagpur Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone II Vinita S, while conducting a night round with her team in Sitabuldi Police Station premises, on early Wednesday morning, booked six youngsters for celebrating birthday on the road in a drunken state.

Two cars and liquor bottles were seized and an offence was registered against the youngsters at Sitabulti Police Station, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Motor Vehicle Act and Epidemic Diseases Act.

?While conducting the night round, at around 1:30 to 2 am on Wednesday, we spotted two cars halted on the road and few people were standing outside. Initially, we thought that someones car might have broken down, so we decided to help them out, DCP Vinita S told Nation Next.

However, as we approached closer, two people immediately fled the spot in a motorcycle. After interrogating the youngsters, who were visibly in a drunken state, we came to know that they were returning from a birthday party and had planned of drinking more liquor on the way, she said.
Speaking on Nagpur citizens flouting norms and partying on roads, DCP Vinita S said, The youth must understand that cops are not against celebrations and partying, but celebrating post 12 am or 2 am, in a drunken state on lone streets, with two women alongside is not safe.

In such state, one wouldn’t be in a position to defend or protect themselves from criminals. In order to avoid any unpleasant encounters, it is necessary to know at what place are you celebrating, she said.

You could celebrate at your home or at restaurants who run on proper timings. However, when you come from a different city, as in this case, the girls were from Bhandara and rest were from Chandrapur, and one four-wheeler was from Bhandara as well, you are not aware of the citys whereabouts.

We are taking strict actions from our side in order to deter such cases, which contribute to making the city unsafe. It is not only the criminal who plays the role in creating such atmosphere, but citizens need to be responsible on what time they are going out. Police can not protect them every time, the DCP said.

Recently, a popular trend called as Car-o-bar? is getting introduced amongst youngsters, where they drink liquor inside their cars. We request youngsters not to indulge in such activities, since we would be taking action against it as well, she added.

Some unknown miscreants in Nagpur vandalised Bishop Cotton School situated on VIP in Dharampeth during the weekend. Apart from the broken plant pots and damaged earthing wires, empty alcohol bottles could also be seen thrown on the floor of the classrooms.

Prima facie it seems some drunkards might have used the school as their hang out place to consume alcohol as it was a weekend and the school was closed. However, nothing could be ascertained as of now; the investigation on the same is on.

When Nation Next spoke to Sonia Singh, Principal at Bishop Cotton School, she told us, What kind of a mentality is this Such people should at least spare kids. It’s so disheartening to see something like this. Class 10 students had their board exams today; unfortunately, we couldn’t indulge them much.”

Singh added, “All the pots have been broken, the earthing wires for the newly installed water cooler for kids has also been damaged.”

However, Singh, who filed an FIR at Sitabuld Police Station today, said, this wasn’t the first such incident; even during lockdown, some miscreants had stolen printers and other property of the school.
