Nagpur’s LAD Colleges final year student Asmita Turaskar was crowned as Miss LAD 2019 during the annual personality contest conducted by the college at its Shankar Nagar Campus. The contest was held in association with Nation Next as the media partner. While Sneha Mangtani was adjudged as the 1st runner-up, Jahnavi Balani was declared as the 2nd runner-up during the contest. The contest was judged by Dr Vaidehi Marathe, Sheikh Zakir Hussain, Vikash Khurana, Dr Amit Samarth, Poonam Menaria and Dr Vartika Patil.
In the personality contest, which was part one of the LAD Colleges annual fest Aura, 32 final year LAD College students competed against each other for the coveted title. These contestants went through various different sessions for three months to prepare them for the contest. These sessions were conducted by Dr Harsha Jharia (Co-ordinator, PG Department of Fashion Design, LAD College), Sonal Trivedi Malkhan, Miss LAD 2018 Payal Chanchlani, Swati Banerjee, Dr Meenakshi Kulkarni, Dr Shishir Palsapure, Sheikh Zakir Hussain, Shraddha Jais and Shabana Motlani.

All the 32 contestants took to the stage as they sashayed down the ramp in style one by one and introduced themselves during the introduction round. Apart the ramp round, contestants After the introduction round, 12 contestants were selected for the question and answers round wherein they were asked several questions by the judges. From the Q & A round, 5 contestants were selected for the common Q & A round. After the round, Asmita Turaskar, Sneha Mangtani and Jahnavi Balani were adjudged as winner, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively.
The subtitle winners included Minal Watmode (Ms Talented), Shubhi Singhal (Ms Photogenic), Shubhra Jain (Ms Beautiful Skin), Ankita Chakraborty (Ms Beautiful Hair), Sneha Diwase (Ms Beautiful Smile) and Jasmin Paul (Ms Perfect Ten).
The contest was held under the supervision of Vatsala Sriniwas (Convenor), Dr Shyamala Nair (Director), Dr Deepali Kotwal (Principal), Radhika Yelkawar (Vice Principal) and Kalpana Dhawad (Vice Principal).

Nagpur’s LAD College celebrates 90 years of existence at ‘Navrang’
Nagpur’s esteemed educational institution LAD College celebrated 90 years of existence at a valedictory function called ‘Navrang’ on May 7, 2022. Nagpur District Collector and Magistrate R Vimala was the chief guest at the function.
Prominently present at the occasion were Dr Avinash Deshmukh (Vice President, Women’s Education Society), Dr Harsha Jharia (Chief Administrative Office, WES) Dr Deepali Kotwal (Principal, LAD College), Dr Nanda Rathi (Co-Ordinator of the year-long celebrations), Dr M Pantula, (Treasurer, WES), Pratiksha Mayee, entrepreneur Shilpa Agrawal, alumnae, students and faculty members.
During her address, R Vimala spoke about the essence of solidarity, fraternity and humility to achieve success on humanitarian grounds. Dr Deshmukh reiterated the thoughts put forth regarding women development for the progression of the society.
Dr Kotwal expressed her gratitude towards all those who consistently worked towards the dream set forth by YM Pathak since 1932 and acknowledged the contribution of each LADian. Shilpa Agrawal, alumni of the college, was felicitated during the occasion for her contribution towards the society as an entrepreneur.
A souvenir, titled Navrang, documenting several voices of its alumnae, teachers and administrators was unveiled by R Vimala and other dignitaries present on the dais. A special feature ‘An Ode to the Institution: Nine Decades Down Memory Lane’ denoting the glorious journey of LAD College was showcased by an award-winning video made by Zainab Burhani.
Dr Rathi informed the gathering with the nine different events marking each decade that were initiated by the college. Another section – Appreciation, Reminiscences and Reunion – had all those associated with the college, express their feelings, emotions and gratitude towards their alma mater. The programme was marked by cultural event comprising of classical dance form performed by students and songs sung by the staff members.
The programme was hosted by Dr Vaikhari Wazalwar, co-convenor of the event and Dr Laila Bhairayya. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Karuna Ganvir – the convener of the event. The entire teaching and non-teaching staff contributed immensely for the success of the programme.

Students floor audience with their performances at Gaikwad Patil College’s ‘Flashmob 2K22’
Students of Nagpur’s Tulsiramji Gaikwad Patil College of Engineering and Technology impressed the audience present with their performances at ‘Flashmob 2K22’ organised by the training and placement department of the college recently.
The event kick started after remarks from Director Dr Prashant Kadu. RJ Nisha from Big FM 92.7 was also present during the event, which also consisted of installation of the Mavericks Students forum. Apart from enabling the students to have some fun, the event also aimed at instilling interpersonal skills, confidence and critical thinking for solving real world problems.
Waseem Qureshi, Shweta Bhoyar, Chetan Jambhulkar, Abhay Rewatkar, Sandeep Thakre, Pravin Petkar, Rohit Deshmukh, Akansha Bhondade, Kavish Gaurkhede and all Mavericks Students forum members worked tirelessly to make the event a grand success.

SVK Shikshan Sanstha, LAD college organise ‘Tie & Dye’ workshop for differently abled teenagers
SVK Sanstha, in association with the Department of Fashion Design of LAD College, recently organised a free tie ‘Tie and Dye Workshop’ for differently-abled teenagers. The intention behind the workshop was to create an an enabling environment and inclusive society, which respects the dignity of persons with disabilities, especially intellectually challenged adults.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr Harsha Jharia (CAO, Women’s Education Society). During her inaugural address, Dr Jharia explained how opportunities can be created for intellectually challenged beneficiaries with the help of tie and dye apparel.
Apart from the participants and Dr Jharia, also present during the workshop were Dr Deepali Kotwal (Principal), Dr Varsha Mankar (HOD), faculty members Mrunal Kedar and Vibhavari Gotmar, Gayathri Vatsalya (President, SVK Shikshan Sanstha), Isha Verma, and volunteers.
SVK Shikshan Sanstha is an NGO, which aims to work towards education and professional training of marginalized women, children and people with intellectual disabilities (Mental retardation, Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, etc).
