‘3rd wave to hit India in August:’ IIT researchers who forecasted 2nd wave
In an eye-opening research, which was conducted by the professors of IIT Hyderabad and IIT Kanpur, predicted that the third wave of COVID-19 would hit India by August.
The research, led by Mahindra Agrawal and Mathukumali Vidyasagar, stated that the third wave would be ‘worse’ than the second wave, which resulted in the death of lakhs.
Surprisingly, the same researchers had predicted the second COVID-19 wave. They had said that the second wave would arise in early April and would continue till late March.
Both India and the world witnessed the devastation caused by the second wave.
The easing of lockdown restrictions, people’s causal approach and the rate of vaccination are some of the main areas of focus in the research.
As per the research, the daily tally of COVID-19 positive cases might reach up to 1.5 lakh at the peak of third wave.
As per Vidyasagar, the decline in COVID-19 cases is the silence before the storm. The peak of third wave is not too far.
It also forecasted that the third wave would be smaller than the second wave.
On 7 May, India had reported over four lakh daily positive cases, which was considered as the peak of second wave.
Moreover, the researchers raised red flags for few states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and others, where daily cases are increasing.
Reportedly, only 7.6% of India’s population is currently vaccinated.
Amid speculations of third wave, it is also being predicted by some experts that the third wave would be more vulnerable for kids.
