Wrestler Sushil Kumar qualifies for 2018 Commonwealth Games

Olympic medalist and Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 74-kg weight category today. The selection trials for the CW games were held at IG Stadium, New Delhi. The Commonwealth Games 2018 will be held in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to April 15, 2018. Other freestyle grapplers, who have qualified for the CW Games are Rahul Aware (57 Kg), Bajrang (65 Kg), Somveer (86 kg), Mausam Khatri (97 Kg) and Sumit (125 Kg).
Sushil was last seen in action in 2014 at the CW Games held in Moscow. In 2015, due to an injury, he couldn’t compete in the trials for World Championships, which were also the Rio Olympic Qualifiers. Sushil made his comeback this year at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship where he won a gold medal. He also recently made history when he became the most expensive player at the Pro Wrestling League after getting acquired by Delhi Sultans for Rs 55 lakh.
While getting selected at the 2018 CW games was a happy moment for Sushil, an unfortunate incident, which took place may have ruined his moment of glory. Sushil’s rival and wrestler Parveen Rana who lost to Sushil in the semi-finals claimed that Sushil’s supporters beat Rana’s elder brother for ‘daring to take the ring’ against Sushil.
