Women safety, cleanliness top priority: Newly-elected Nagpur Deputy Mayor Manisha Dhawade

The newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Nagpur, Manisha Dhawade, on Thursday, said that she was blessed to be married in a family, which supported her in joining politics and they were her strength. Dhawade was sworn in as the Deputy Mayor of Nagpur today.
Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Corporator, Dhawade, was elected as Deputy to Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari on January 5 through online polls at the Nagpur Municipal Corporations office (NMC).
Securing 107 votes from 149, Dhawade is sixth from her family, who is serving as a corporator at NMC. Elected in 2017 as a corporator, Dhawade, was mentored by her in-laws for politics.
Just few hours after her swearing ceremony, she spoke to Nation Next and said, I never thought of getting in politics but I got married into a family, where public service was a way of life. Five of my in-laws had served as corporators before me. I was inspired and motivated by them. I’m blessed and lucky that my in-laws showed me a world beyond cooking-cleaning; it is due to their efforts that I have become the Deputy Mayor today.
Speaking about her plans for Nagpur, she said, Women safety and cleanliness at public places is my top priority. I’m honoured to have a mentor like Daya bhaiya (Dayashankar Tiwari) as the Mayor, with whom, I will work hard to serve Nagpurians and address their needs.
In my first term itself as a Corporator, I got the chance to serve as the deputy Mayor. I understand the responsibilities of the job. We have a lot to do. I’m positive that we will clear the backlog from last year, which was due because of COVID-19, said Dhawade when asked about the workload being more in her tenure.
She ended by saying, Daya bhaiya is a leader, who is respected by the people for his work ethics and the relations, which he maintains with others. I assure people of Nagpur that we will do our best to be true on their expectations.

‘There’s wave of andh bhakts; don’t be one:’ CM Uddhav Thackeray during Nitin Raut’s book release
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray said there was a wave of andh bhakts (a term colloquially used for blind illogical followers) at the moment and people shouldn’t become andh bhakts.
Thackeray said the same while virtually releasing state cabinet minister Dr Nitin Raut’s book ‘Ambedkar on Population Policy’ on Sunday from Mumbai.
Thackeray said, “Babasaheb Ambedkar’s thoughts guide us and show us the way forward. He not only framed the Constitution but also told us the obstacles that may come up and how to overcome them. The true follower will understand the teaching of his God and spread it to all. The blind follower will only praise superficially and then sometimes change his affection.”
Raut, who was praised by Thackeray for coming up with a ‘well-researched’ book, said the government in the state should implement suggestions given by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and initiate welfare programmes based on them.
