Sunil Chhetri equals Lionel Messis record as India lifts Intercontinental Cup 2018

Sunil Chhetri, on Sunday, equaled Lionel Messis record as he led the Indian team to a win against Kenya to win the Intercontinental Cup 2018.

Charismatic football player and captain of the Indian football team Sunil Chhetri, on Sunday, equaled Argentinian footballer Lionel Messis record as he led the Indian team to a win against Kenya in the final match of the Intercontinental Cup 2018. India thrashed Kenya by 2-0 in the match, which took place at the Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri.

The 33-year-old footballer Chhetri, while representing India in his 102nd match, continued his superb form as his scored a brace (two goals in single match) in the 8th and 29th minute of the first half. In the process, Chhetri became the 2nd joint top scorer with Messi. While Chhetri achieved the feat in 102 games, Messi has scored 64 goals in 124 matches. The current top goal scorer position is held by Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 81 goals in 150 games.

Chhetris first goal against Kenya came through a clever set-piece assisted by Anirudh Thapa, which found the bottom corner. The second special? goal came after Chhetri managed to chest down a long ball from defender Anas Edathodika and comfortably finish past Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi. Kenyan team could not score even a single goal and eventually lost the match.

Chhetri in a Facebook post thanked Indian football fans in the stadium and those watching the game from home for supporting the Indian Football Team.

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day. 

Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.

Six people lost their lives (one from rural and five from city) on Tuesday. Till now, 10,183 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district. Total tests taken were 11,377.
While patients who recovered on Tuesday were 2519, the total number of recovered patients stood at 503729.

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus. 

Also, five patients recovered on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 4,83,664. 

Till now, 10123 people have lost their lives due to COVID in the district. As of now, there are 406 active COVID patients in the district.
