Nagpur shuttler Ritika Thaker along with Simran Singhi is now India no. 1 in U-19 girls doubles

Badminton players Ritika Thaker (from Nagpur) and Simran Singhi (from Mumbai), on Saturday, jumped to India no. 1 spot in Under-19 girls doubles ranking by Badminton Association of India (BAI). Ritika and Simran, both in a combined way have 1976 ranking points (988 each) ? the highest combined points in the category in India right now.
Ritika and Simran, dethroned shuttlers UK Mithula (from Karnataka) and Rutuparna Panda (from Assam) to be at the top position. Recently, Panda moved to the seniors category, which has left Mithula in a search for a new partner.

It is not the first time that a badminton player from Nagpur has made the city proud. In the past shuttlers Arundhati Pantawane, Malvika Bansod and Rohan Gurbani have been in the top position in Womens Singles, U-17 Girls Singles and U-15 Boys Singles categories respectively.
17-year-old Ritika, who’s scheduled to play several important tournaments this year, is right now preparing for the Asian Junior Championship to be held in July in Indonesia.

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.
Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.
