Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS), on Tuesday, raided Tukaram Sabhagruha in Narendra Nagar, Ring Road and recovered a fine of Rs 5,000, each from the family that had booked the place and the hall owner, for overcrowding and flouting COVID-19 norms.

Troopers from Dhantoli Zones NDS recovered a total fine of Rs 10,000 from the violators there.

With sudden surge of COVID-19 cases in Nagpur, Municipal Radhakrishnan B, on Saturday, had directed administration to seal celebration halls and lawns, that are found accommodating more people than permissible numbers (50 guests).

This year, Vasant Panchami is being celebrated on February 16. Large number of wedding ceremonies are conducted on the occasion. Due to rising cases of COVID-19 in the city, such places can become a hub of spreading the virus as people tend to flout norms while celebrating.

NMC authorities are to keep a keen eye on such wedding halls and lawns on Tuesday.

The action was taken under the guidance of Chief of Violence Investigation Squad Virsen Tambe, by Dhantoli Zone NDS Chief Narhari Birkad and Arvind Ladekar.
