NMC penalises 649 citizens for not wearing masks in 24 hours; collects over Rs 3.5 lakh fine in 5 days

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Nuisance Detection Squad fining citizens for not wearing a mask

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) on September 8 collected a fine of Rs 1,29,800 while taking action against 649 citizens for not wearing a mask in the city. In the past five days, NDS acted against 1,285 citizens and collected a total fine of Rs 3.57 lakh.

The rapidly multiplying cases of COVID-19 in Nagpur, has become a matter of grave concern for the citys administration. In order to contain the virus, NMC has ordered citizens to wear mask in public places and maintain social distancing.

However, it has been observed that many citizens have been blatantly violating these norms and hence, a team of 180 NDS jawans, under the guidance of NDS chief Veer Singh Tambe, have been deployed at various parts of the city to take action against the violators.

Apart from deploying NDS jawans, Nagpur cops have also established 66 nakabandi points to penalise citizens wandering outside without masks. Traffic police teams have installed barricades on all the 66 checkpoints positioned across 10 traffic zones in Nagpur ? MIDC, Sonegaon, Sitabuldi, Sadar, Cotton Market, Ajni, Sakkardara, Lakadganj, Indora and Kamptee.

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.

Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.

Six people lost their lives (one from rural and five from city) on Tuesday. Till now, 10,183 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the district. Total tests taken were 11,377.

While patients who recovered on Tuesday were 2519, the total number of recovered patients stood at 503729.

Nagpur reports 90 COVID cases in past 24 hours

Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday, January 2 reached 4,94,193 (till 5 pm) as 90 (73 city, nine rural) more people tested positive for the virus.

Also, five patients recovered on Sunday taking the number of recoveries to 4,83,664.

Till now, 10123 people have lost their lives due to COVID in the district. As of now, there are 406 active COVID patients in the district.

ALARMING! Nagpur reports 88 COVID cases in past 24 hours
