Nagpur Central Jail: 24 more prisoners test COVID-19 positive

Rising number of COVID-19 positive cases in Nagpur Central Jail continues to worry prisoners and officials around. On Tuesday, 24 more prisoners tested positive for the deadly virus taking the tally of COVID-19 positive prisoners to 68, apart from 57 positive jail officials now admitted at Mayo Hospital for treatment. Out of the total so far, 34 asymptomatic patients would be receiving treatment at ‘ COVID-19 Care Centre’ a makeshift facility developed in three barracks, each with a capacity of 50 prisoners.
As per the directives by the Bombay High Court, random tests are now being carried out amongst the 1783 prisoners. Around 100 tested swabs were collected on the first day after a meeting of District Collector Ravindra Thakare, civil surgeon Dr Devendra Paturkar, Superintendent at Nagpur Central Jail Anup Kumar Kumre, and Zilla Parishad District Health Officer at the prison on Tuesday.
When Nation Next spoke to Superintendent at Nagpur Central Jail Anup Kumar Kumre, he said, All senior citizens have been tested for COVID-19 and their results are negative. They have anyway been shifted to a different barrack. We’ve also requested for Vitamin C capsules for all prisoners to fight COVID-19. Apart from this, we’re also providing them with an immunity booster ‘kadha’ twice a day.
Speaking about the sudden death of a 40-year-old prisoner at Nagpur Central Jail on Monday, who died after slipping in bathroom, Kumre said, His COVID-19 reports were negative.

Maharashtra Minister Amit Deshmukh honours Nagpur’s Dr Danish Iqbal with ‘COVID Warrior’ award

Dr Danish Iqbal, Nagpur District Oral Health officer received the ‘COVID Warrior’ award at the hands of Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh at a function held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai on May 17. Also present during the felicitation were Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Dr Narendra Kale. The function was organized by Maharashtra State Dental Council.
During the pandemic, Dr Iqbal was initially appointed as nodal officer of Central India College of Pharmacy in Nagpur’s Lonara and then as the nodal officer of VNIT quarantine centre, which was one of the biggest quarantine centres of Vidarbha.
Dr Iqbal received the recognition for his excellent work done during the pandemic. He worked under the guidance of public health department at civil surgeon office in Nagpur and sub district hospital in Kamptee. Out of the 51,000 dental surgeons in the state, 160 were shortlisted for the recognition. Dr Danish Iqbal received the recognition along with three other doctors from Vidarbha.

The Lokmat Times Excellence in Healthcare Award is given to doctors on the basis of their performance. Public opinion polls are also conducted through media and social media.

Thousands benefit from free health check-up drive by Kingsway Hospitals, Nation Next Foundation
More than 1,500 Nagpur citizens have benefitted till now from the free health check-up drive, which is being organized every morning at various parks of Nagpur, by Kingsway Hospitals and Nation Next Foundation.
Nation Next Foundation and Kingsway Hospitals have join hands to conduct free health check-up camps at different Nagpur parks. The campaign, which started from April 13, will go on till May 13, 2022. The camp is held from 5:30 am to 7:30 am. During the camp, citizens can get their blood pressure, SPO2 levels and random blood sugar checked for free.
