Dialogue @ Nation Next with Sachin Pilgaonkar | Interview

Sachin Pilgaonkar was just four years old when he made his foray into films. He first acted in 1962 Marathi film Ha Maza Marg Ekla, a film which earned him a National Award. As a child artist, Sachin acted alongside actors like Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra in films like Jewel Thief, Brahmachari, etc. In 1975, he played the lead role with actress Sarika in the Rajshri Productions movie ? Geet Gaata Chal. The unexpected success of the film launched his career full allegedly in the film industry.
Apart from acting in Marathi films along with his friend the late Laxmikant Berde, Sachin also played supporting roles in Hindi films like Trishul, Sholay, Satte Pe Satta, etc. Having established himself as an actor, Sachin took to direction and soon started directing Marathi films in the 1980s. His directorial venture Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi (1988) ? which was a remake of his idol and acclaimed filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukerjees 1966 film Biwi Aur Makan was a runaway hit. Along with Ashok Saraf and Berde, Sachin is credited with giving the audiences several amazing Marathi films. The trio, together, dominated much of the late 1980s and early 1990s of the Marathi film industry. Sachin Pilgaonkars stint with television has also been a highly successful one.
In the 1990s he directed the highly popular comedy TV show ? Tu Tu Main Main ? which starred his wife Supriya Pilgaonkar and his late friend and veteran actress Reema Lagoo. In 2006, Sachin along with Supriya also won the dance reality show Nach Baliye.
In a relaxed chat with Nation Next, Sachin Pilgaonkar speaks about his journey in the film industry, his life as an actor, his quotient with his Ranangan co-star Swwapnil Joshi and his upcoming directorial centure Ashi Hi Ashiqui featuring his late friend Laxmikant Berdes son Abhinay Berde.
