Keeping up with its tradition of celebrating art and culture, Hislop College is conducting the 14th edition of its intercollegiate event – Athena Fest 2016-17 – in association with Nation Next as the online media partner.
With a lot of activities revolving around dance, drama and literature, the fest, organised by ‘The Athenaeum’ – the cultural and literary body of Hislop College – promises to test the capabilities and word power of hundreds of participants. The three-day fest (from January 10 to January 12, 2017) will serve a platform to around 500 participants from 120 colleges and CBSE schools from Nagpur to showcase their talent. The various competitions, which will be conducted at Athena, include Word Busters, Quzzistan, Debate competition, Lit Masters, Group dance competition, Skit competition and solo and duet singing competition. The elimination round of these competitions have already taken place; and in the following days, participants will battle it out to be the ultimate winners in their respective competitions. The top three winners from every competition will be given cash prizes.
The core team of Athena is working tirelessly to make the fest a memorable affair. The core team consists of Irshad Pathan (President), Abhijit Chore and Benhur Masih (Vice Presidents), Roshan Gede (Secretary), Harshal Deshpande and Tamanna Dave (Joint Secretaries), Yasmin Chimthanwala (Treasurer), Harshal Thakare (Sponsorship-In-Charge) and executive members – Ritika Sen, Kavisha Kakade, Aniket Jhadhav, Vincy Abraham, Aishwarya Lakhe and Abhishek Yadav.
Speaking to Nation Next about the fest, Harshal Thakare said, “When Athena Fest started fourteen years back, it used to be jointly organised by Hislop Literary Society and Hislop Centre of Performing Arts. But since the last four years, it’s being put forth as a consolidated effort by ‘The Athenaeum.’ Ever since the inception of the fest, students of Hislop College have been taking initiatives to rope in more and more students from different schools and colleges of Nagpur. In 2016, Athena Fest was a two-day affair, while this year we have a three-day fest due to a surge in number of the participants and the competitions. Last year, we could get participation from just 30 colleges, but this year we have not only got participation from many more colleges but also from various CBSE schools like Bhavans, Centre Point, Xaviers and many others. We, as Hislopians, are very grateful to our Principal Dipti Christian ma’am, our Convener Lovely Menachery ma’am and Co-convener Supantha Bhattacharyya sir for trusting us and giving us an opportunity to show our management skills. We, as the core team, have worked really hard for the Athena Fest, and we believe we can pull it off amazingly well and make it an affair to remember!
