Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, on July 25, inaugurated Advance Diagnostics Pathlab (ADPL) for COVID RT-PCR testing at Kamla Towers at Indora Square in Nagpur. ADPL, which is owned by Dr Major Shantanu Mukerji, is north Nagpur’s first COVID RT-PCR lab and can return the results of the test in just four hours.
ADPL was inaugurated by Dr Raut in the presence of guest of honour Dr Shankar Khobragade (consulting physician and diabetologist), Sourav Mukerji (lab director) and friends and family members of Dr Mukerji.
ADPL is a fully equipped and high quality molecular automated lab, which is accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) and approved by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research). ADPL conforms to the standards and regulations laid down by ISO 15189:2012 and other relevant legislations of regulatory bodies.
The lab is one of a kind in Nagpur as it can return results of a COVID RT-PCR test within four hours. Operating at its maximum capacity, ADPL can test around 1,000 samples in one day and return the results on the same day itself.

Speaking about the same, Dr Mukerji said, “At ADPL, DNA and RNA extractions from a sample happen through a machine, whereas in most labs they are done manually. While manual extraction can take up to one and half hours, at our lab, we can do it under 30 minutes.
96 samples can be checked at the same time with the help of the machine. After the extraction, it takes around two hours for the results. Total turnaround time for the report is four hours. So, if we do the extractions around seven times a day, we can do around 700 tests in just a matter of few hours. At full capacity, we can do 1,000 tests a day and return results the same day.”
Dr Mukerji added: “Because the entire process is automated, there is no scope for contamination and hence the quality of report is very high. The method is very fast and accurate. The results are also uploaded to ICMR automatically in real time through a software.”

Maharashtra Minister Amit Deshmukh honours Nagpur’s Dr Danish Iqbal with ‘COVID Warrior’ award
Nagpur District Oral Health Officer Dr Danish Iqbal with Maharashtra Minister Amit Deshmukh
Dr Danish Iqbal, Nagpur District Oral Health officer received the ‘COVID Warrior’ award at the hands of Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh at a function held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai on May 17. Also present during the felicitation were Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Dr Narendra Kale. The function was organized by Maharashtra State Dental Council.
During the pandemic, Dr Iqbal was initially appointed as nodal officer of Central India College of Pharmacy in Nagpur’s Lonara and then as the nodal officer of VNIT quarantine centre, which was one of the biggest quarantine centres of Vidarbha.
Dr Iqbal received the recognition for his excellent work done during the pandemic. He worked under the guidance of public health department at civil surgeon office in Nagpur and sub district hospital in Kamptee. Out of the 51,000 dental surgeons in the state, 160 were shortlisted for the recognition. Dr Danish Iqbal received the recognition along with three other doctors from Vidarbha.
The second ceremony of distribution of ‘Lokmat Times Excellence in Healthcare Awards 2021’ took place on Wednesday at Hotel Centre Point in Nagpur. The programme was presided by chief guests — former Union Minister and former Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis — and Chairman at Lokmat Media Group Vijay Darda to name a few.

The jury comprised chairman of the jury board and Senior Physician Dr SN Deshmukh, Secretary and Senior Radiologist Raju Khandelwal, eminent Ophthalmologist and MP Padma Shri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Deputy Director of Health, Nagpur Division Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Senior ENT, Head & Neck Surgeon Dr Madan Kapare, Senior Physician Dr Jay Deshmukh, Senior Gastroenterologist Dr Srikant Mukewar, Senior Gynaecologist Dr Sadhana Deshmukh, Senior Psychiatrist Dr Sudhir Bhave, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences Ravindra Saranaik and world renowned Ayurveda doctor Sunil Joshi along with Lokmat Times Editor NK Nayak.
The Lokmat Times Excellence in Healthcare Award is given to doctors on the basis of their performance. Public opinion polls are also conducted through media and social media.

Thousands benefit from free health check-up drive by Kingsway Hospitals, Nation Next Foundation
More than 1,500 Nagpur citizens have benefitted till now from the free health check-up drive, which is being organized every morning at various parks of Nagpur, by Kingsway Hospitals and Nation Next Foundation.
Nation Next Foundation and Kingsway Hospitals have join hands to conduct free health check-up camps at different Nagpur parks. The campaign, which started from April 13, will go on till May 13, 2022. The camp is held from 5:30 am to 7:30 am. During the camp, citizens can get their blood pressure, SPO2 levels and random blood sugar checked for free.
