48-year-old Aarif Khan, who ferried the bodies of around 200 COVID-19 victims for their last rites in Delhi since March, died due to coronavirus at Hindu Rao Hospital on Saturday. Khan tested positive for COVID-19 on October 3 and succumbed to it a day after getting admitted to the hospital.
Khan was employed with the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal, which provided free emergency ambulance services in Delhi-NCR. Khan was available 24*7 for ferrying COVID-19 victims for their last rites and would often pitch in money for the last rituals if the family needed financial help.

As per reports, Khan would sleep in an ambulance parking lot, which is nearly 28 km from his home in East Delhis Seelampur. Khan’s son Aadil told a daily: We met when he came over to pick essentials, like clothes. I used to go to check on him sometimes as we were always worried about him. But he never bothered about COVID-19. He just wanted to do his job well.
Sadly, the man who ensured COVID-19 victims got a proper farewell did not get one himself as his family just saw his body from afar before his last rites.
