Mary Kom to be in Nagpur on Nov 26 for Maha Metro Nagpur Marathon

Boxing legend and Padma Bhushan awardee Mary Kom will be in Nagpur on November 26, 2017 for the Maha Metro Nagpur Marathon organised by Adventures and You. The annual marathon, which saw a participation from 2,500 people last year, is being held in association with Nation Next as the online media partner, Nagpur Runners Academy, Saraswati Vidyalaya Alumni Association (SVAA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nagpur.
On November 26, the marathon will start at 6 am sharp from Tirpude College, Civil Lines, Nagpur and will consist of four race categories: 1.5 km for specially abled children, 5 km fun walk/jog/run, 10 km Endurance Run and the flagship 21 km Orange City Run.
Apart from several Nagpurians, quite a few runners from across the county are expected to take part in the marathon. Among these runners are: Pravin Zele from Pune who ran 21 km daily barefoot for straight 121 days, 64-year-old retired Mumbai Police ACP Prakash Wani along with 150 participants from Mumbai Road runners and Mira Bhayandar Runners and Atul Godbole from Pune, who’s trained many runners who have completed the 89 km Comrades Marathon held every year in South Africa. Interestingly, this year, 91 officers of the GST department, led by Dr Vaijanath D Kamthewad, Joint Commissioner of Sales Tax (Appeal) at Nagpur, will also be running at the marathon.
Mitesh Rambhia, who’s the race director of the marathon, said, “Winners will be identified on the basis of individual time taken to cross the finish line in 10 and 21 km races. They will be electronically timed.” Speaking further about the chief guest Mary Kom, who’s also going to give away the prizes to the winners and runners-up, Rambhia said, “Keeping in mind that someone as passionate as Mary Kom is going to present at the marathon, I would just like to urge everybody to follow their passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.
Speaking about the marathon, Brijesh Dixit, MD, Maha Metro, the title sponsors of the event, said, Nagpur has the blessing of excellent weather for outdoor physical activities. I appeal people of all ages to participate in the Maha Metro Nagpur Marathon.”

Active COVID cases near 30,000 mark in Nagpur
Nagpur’s COVID-19 tally, on Tuesday, January 25, reached 5,43,064 (till 5 pm) as 4028 (972 from rural and 2956 from city) new cases were recorded in a single day.
Also, active COVID cases, as on Tuesday, could be seen inching closer to 30,000 mark in the district.
