The Maharashtra government on, Tuesday night, October 26, issued orders mandating wearing masks for the citizens in the state. Strict actions would be taken against those, who fail to abide by the newly imposed rule.
This decision came ahead of the festive season in Maharashtra and amid threats of the third wave of COVID-19.
The order was issued under ?Break the Chain? plan citing the Disaster Management Act of 2005.
It stated that all government and private establishments should ensure that all employees were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. It also made it compulsory for all employees to wear masks while on duty.
The state authorities were given the right to punish citizens if they failed to follow the norms. Heavy fines would be imposed on such citizens.
However, the details of the amount that would be imposed were not mentioned.
According to a report by the National Institute of Disaster Management, which was submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office in early September, third wave in India would be at its peak in mid-November.
