The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Friday, said that under the nationwide vaccination drive against COVID-19, India administered 54,71,282 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours.
From 16 January 2021 to 19 August, 57.22 crore vaccines were administered, which included Covishield and Covaxin.
In a press release, the ministry mentioned that 36,571 new COVID positive cases emerged in the last 24 hours. However, the count of active cases was 1.12% of the total active cases, which was the lowest since March 2020.
It further mentioned that India’s active caseload stood at 3,63,605, which was lowest in the last 150 days. Amid third wave speculation, the recovery rate increased to 97.54%. As per the ministry, it was highest recovery rate recorded since March 2020.
Furthermore, it stated that 36,555 citizens recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 3,15,61,635 since the beginning of the pandemic. The press release noted that weekly positivity rate was 1.93% and the daily positivity rate stood at 1.94% in the last 24 hours.
In India, nearly 4.33 lakh people died due to COVID-19. Speaking of Maharashtra in particular, which highest death tally among other states, nearly 1.35 lakh lost their lives to COVID-19 since March 2020.
