Micro-blogging site Twitter, on Saturday, restored Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account after locking it for one week.
Twitter had temporarily suspended Gandhi’s account, when he posted pictures of him meeting the family members of a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and died in Delhi. According to Twitter, Gandhi’s post violated its guidelines.
?By shutting down my Twitter account, they (Twitter) are interfering in our political process. A company is making its business to define our politics and as a politician, I don’t like that. This is an attack on the democratic structure of our country, said Gandhi after his account was suspended.
Twitter suspended Gandhi’s account on the complaint received by the National Child Protection Committee (NCPC). To share and reveal the identity of a sex crime victim was against the law, said the complaint by NCPC.
According to the complaint, Gandhi broke the law and hence his Twitter account was suspended along with the accounts of other Congress leaders, who had shared the same picture.
As per the latest reports, Twitter accounts of some of the other Congress leaders who had shared the same picture have also been restored.
The Congress party staged nation-wide protests against Gandhi’s Twitter account suspension.
