Siblings convert car into ‘COVID ward’ for mother, spend 4 days in vehicle waiting for bed at hospital
In one of the most amazing stories of human triumph over the deadly COVID-19, a brother-sister duo in Lucknow recently converted their car into a COVID ward for their mother and spent four days with her in the vehicle while waiting to get admission at a hospital.
The siblings shifted their COVID-19 positive mother, requiring dialysis, on the backseat and put an oxygen cylinder for her in the trunk of the car. On the fifth day, the mother got a bed at the hospital and recovered from COVID-19 after another five days. The siblings however spent the entire ten days in the car.
On April 10, Payal Singh (25) and her brother Akash (23) drove 240 kms from Lakhimpur Kheri to Lucknow for their mother’s dialysis at a hospital. As the mother Parul Singh (45) had fever, the hospital asked for a RT-PCR COVID test report.
As the Parul was a suspected case of COVID-19 the siblings decided to spend the night in car rather than going at a relatives place or a hotel. The next day, ParulsCOVID report came back positive. The regular hospital refused to conduct dialysis, so the siblings reached out to another private hospital. However, as Paruls saturation levels dropped and the hospital didn’t have an oxygen bed, she could not be admitted.

Over the next few days, the siblings tried to arrange oxygen for their mother while all three of them stayed in the car in the parking lot of the hospital. When Paruls husband arrived from Lakhimpur with an oxygen cylinder, he was immediately sent back after dropping the cylinder in order to save him from the infection.
While oxygen cylinders brought temporary relief, the siblings kept searching for an oxygen bed at various hospitals. Finally, Parul got a bed on April 24 in RMLIMS. She was later discharged on April 30 after recovering.
On April 22, Akash too developed symptoms making Payal do all the running around for medicines, food and finances. She also started taking medicines as precautionary measure.
