Melghat Wildlife Crime Cyber Cell busted a poaching racket in Bhaisdehi in Betul district on Friday and confiscated body parts of animals. Four persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in poaching. Interestingly, one of the accused was earlier nabbed in a tiger poaching case too.

Cyber cell was constantly tracking the criminals for the last two months. But no action could be initiated vis-à-vis their arrest as one of the relatives of the accused had passed away.

Finally, on Friday the accused were nabbed. It was during the interrogation, the culprits admitted that they were looking for buyers. However, they said they didn’t have any involvement in poaching. The accused claimed that the body parts of animals in their possession were of already dead animals, which were found in the forest. They added that the same body parts were used for preparing traditional medicines.

TOI quoted an official by saying, We are not sure whether nails recovered from the accused are of tiger or leopard and only a forensic test can confirm that. The claws seem to be of sloth bear. We have also seized a wild boar jaw. The cyber cell played a key role in trailing and nabbing the culprits. Preliminary offence report has been registered by Betul forest officials.
