Kadar Shaikh’s office converted into a COVID-19 care facility in Gujarat’s Surat

In a heartwarming gesture, a Surat-based businessman, who recovered from coronavirus, has converted his office into a 85-bed facility to provide free treatment to the poor suffering from COVID-19. 

The businessman Kadar Shaikh had comtracted the virus last month. He spent 20 days a private hospital and was horrified to see the bill during the discharge. Once out of the hospital, Shaikh secured permission to turn his 30,000 sq.ft office premises into a COVID-19 care facility. While the government provides and pays for the staff, medical equipment and medicine, Shaikh bought the beds and pays for electricity.

Shaikh, who’s a property developer, told AFP: The cost of treatment at a private hospital was huge. How could poor people afford such treatment? So, I decided to do something and contribute in the fight against the deadly virus.
