Coronavirus is airborne, claim scientists; ask WHO to revise guidelines
Several scientists from around the world have claimed that coronavirus is an airborne disease as it can infect people through small particles present in the air. As per a report in New York Times, around 239 scientists from 32 countries, in an open letter to the World Health Organization (WHO), have requested the health body to revise recommendations on COVID-19.
As per the report, the scientists are of the view that – Whether carried by large droplets that zoom through the air after a sneeze or by much smaller exhaled droplets that may glide the length of a room, coronavirus is borne through air and can infect people when inhaled.

However, as per NYT, WHO found no evidence for the virus being airborne and the facts laid were not convincing enough to take a decision. The WHO has stated from the beginning that coronavirus spreads primarily from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth, which are expelled when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes or speaks.
Dr Benedetta Allegranzi, WHOs technical lead of infection prevention and control, told NYT: ?Especially in the last couple of months, we have been stating several times that we consider airborne transmission as possible but certainly not supported by solid or even clear evidence.
