Rucha Joshi Vaidya, a Nagpur based Consulting Psychologist, speaks about how to develop and maintain a great mental health in the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.

There has been a spike in depression and anxiety ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the lockdown till April 14 to combat the widespread of Coronavirus. Such has been the effect of lockdown worldwide that even World Health Organisation (WHO) released an advice on protecting ones mental health during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The past few days of lockdown have been proving quite difficult for most of us and there are a few more days to go. Mentioned below are ten simple points that might help elevate your mood and make you feel like you have been utilising all the time that you have on your hands. These notes are simple to follow and will put you at ease mentally.

Reinvent an old hobby

Do a 20 minute dance workout

Do house chores mindfully? (you will see it gradually gets enjoyable)

Act and play like children with kids (if at all available) at home

Try to cook something new

Play board games, cards or games you played as children (hopscotch, bat-ball, blindfold etc)

If you are the ?fun? person in the family then try to lift up the mood of others by fooling and joking around (that’s good counselling in disguise!)

Develop a green thumb; try to grow plants. This can be done even in a small glass. Follow @queenpenelope21 on Instagram for guidance

Download Headspace (it’s a great application for some easy breezy meditation)

Do some art or craft. Colour, learn to sketch, paintanything!

Introspect! This could be a great time to jot your thoughts, aims and path towards your goal. You could try writing down in a dairy some though memories, some sorrows, some happy moments and some leftover dialogues.
