Home Minister Anil Deshmukh averts Tablighi Jammat-like incident in Maharashtra by denying permission to 50,000
Home Minister Anil Deshmukh averts Tablighi Jammat-like incident in Maharashtra by denying permission to 50,000…
A gathering of 50,000 similar to that of Tablighi Jammat in Delhi was averted in Mumbai’s far suburb of Vasai due to an alert Maharashtra Home Ministry headed by Anil Deshmukh. Permission to hold a similar congregation in Vasai where over 50,000 people were expected to gather was withheld by the Home Ministry in light of the Corona pandemic sweeping the country.
Permission to organise a grand congregation ? a Tablighi Ijtema ? on March 14 and 15 at Diwanman village in Vasai West had been sought by Shamim Education & Welfare Society. A formal letter seeking permission for the programme, which was supposed to include Qoran readings, discourses and prayers was sought from the Home Ministry.
The Home Ministry swung into action and rescinded the permission already granted by the local police and strictly warned the organisers against having any such congregation at all, said Anil Deshmukh. He added, Now on seeing the chaos over the Delhi congregation it seems that our quick action prevented the same from unfolding here too.
He further underlined how the Home Ministry in Delhi could have shown such far sightedness and quicker reflexes. It would have helped avert the spread of infection, said Deshmukh.
Few days back, thousands of members of Tablighi Jamaat organised an event in Delhis Nizamuddin, for which they came under the glare as they spawned many COVID-19 clusters across India.
